Stephen Bazire Council Member: Professor Stephen Bazire,

Stephen Bazire is Consultant Pharmacist, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Professor, School of Pharmacy, University of East Anglia, and was made a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 2006.

The Trust provides mental health services to Norfolk and Suffolk . His role within the UK Psychiatric Pharmacy Group was as Editor of the Bulletin (1990-99) and Chairman (1999-2001). As UKPPG Chairman, he was instrumental in setting up the College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP), which has now taken over from the UKPPG. He is currently a Director of CMHP.

His special interests include user and carer information and education on medicines, and has been integral with the development of the www.choiceandmedication.org.uk website for service users and carers launched in October 2008, and now available as bespoke sites for individual organisations, providing up-to-date and credible information free 24/7 for service users and carers. He is also active in implementing electronic prescribing within his Trust. His main claim to fame is being author of the "Psychotropic Drug Directory", of which there have been 24 editions and over 480,000 copies sold (including Spanish and American translations and three editions of the GP version, the "GP Psychotropic Handbook”). He has worked for the Ombudsman and was on the NICE Guidelines Review Panel for Bipolar Disorder (issued July 2006). He is also a visiting Fellow and external examiner for the School of Life and Health Sciences (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Aston University, Birmingham and awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to pharmacy. His outside interests include playing in a ceilidh/barn dance band, railways, and being a season ticket holder at Norwich City Football Club.
