Peter Haddad Co-Opted Council Member: Dr Peter Haddad, PhD

Peter Haddad graduated in Medicine from Manchester in 1987 having completed an intercalated BSc in Medical Biochemistry 3 years earlier. His psychiatric training included research in psycho-oncology that led to him being awarded an MSc and an MD. During his training he received several awards including the Gaskell Gold Medal from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is currently a Consultant in Community Psychiatry in Salford and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester.

His main research and clinical interests are the pharmacological treatment of schizophrenia and affective disorders. He has supervised several MSc projects and published many papers, letters and book chapters (over 100 in total). He is co-editor of a book on Adverse Syndromes and Psychiatric Drugs. He was the Pharmacology Topic Lead for the 2006 NICE Bipolar Guideline and a member of the 2009 NICE Medicines Adherence Guideline group. He is committed to teaching and was a founding member of the ‘Affective Disorder Group North West’ and Treasurer of this organisation for 5 years. He serves on the Editorial Board of Human Psychopharmacology and is a supervisor for non-medical prescribing in his Trust.

He has been actively involved with the BAP for the last 10 years. This has included presenting regularly at the annual Meeting, being a Supervisor for the Certificate, contributing to the Guidelines for Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia and lecturing on the BAP Master-class and Fundamentals courses. He is particularly interested in developing the Association’s educational programmes and clinical guidelines. He believes that his experience as a clinician and researcher, and his early training in biochemistry, mean that he is well placed to serve the membership.
